CV

  • 2024: Pivoted into supplyco.ai, cofounded with Jannik Wiedenhaupt to build tools for industrial capital goods sales and go-to-market teams.
  • 2022: Founded my company, discussed on my homepage…
    • Wrote this op-ed on decentralized cloud adoption.
    • Built a private fileshare that uses the filesystem in the browser or locally.
    • Built a filesystem that provides various cryptographic guarantees about the provenance and privacy of the data inside it.
    • Went to market as enterprise cloud archival backup offering.
    • Gave a talk in Reykyavik on the status and difficulties of going to market with a decentralized cloud offering.
    • Did a significant amount of research on game-theoretic designs for decentralized CDN incentive, gave a talk about it in Brussels.
  • 2023: Collaborated with Lev Stambler and Rodney Yesep to implement a ZK-enabled private DeFi swap protocol called P1nch (private 1inch). Used batch blinding and mixing for privacy- somewhere between the design of Penumbra and ZCash.
  • 2023: Led implementation of a partial open-source rewrite of the Barretenberg PLONK prover and gadget library to Rust (incomplete, with Waylon Jepsen).
  • 2024: Designed and implemented a library for EVM smart contracts that enables transactions to introspect and make assertions about their execution context, to allow smart contracts to make assertions about how they are being MEV’d.
  • 2020-2022: Lots of helping and collaborating and hanging out around the Urbit ecosystem.
  • 2021-2022: Filecoin engineer on FVM and the node software/core runtime
  • 2021: chaotic DeFi freelance period. Implemented the Berlin hard fork of HEVM. Outside of that, did a lot of shitcoining, mechanism design, cryptography auditing, and solidity auditing (some with Warp Protocol and Composable Finance).
  • 2021-2022: Critical Philosophy student at The New Centre for Research and Practice (founded a company and wasn’t able to finish the program)
  • 2020-2021: UChicago taught Master’s in machine learning- lots of theory- dropped out to freelance for DeFi summer.
    • Did some (sloppy, fast) research on visualizing generalization in deep neural nets by studying how mistaken labeling in one class impacts error rate in other classes by computing the KL-divergence between distributions. Made a poster and a short rough draft of a paper right before I dropped out.
  • 2020: Trail of Bits Cryptography auditor and ZK researcher on DARPA SIEVE grant.
    • I wrote a compiler that turned LLVM IR into arithmetic circuits (not public)
    • And some rust security tooling.
  • 2016-2020: UChicago undergraduate- CS and one final short of math (dropped out to make money for DeFi summer). Did some cool research with using t-SNE to cluster Bitcoin wallets and do some very crappy chainalysis in 2018, for a class, and I can’t find the paper.
  • summer 2019: Jane Street SWE/security internship (including writing Noise/part of Wireguard in OCaml- see my Github)
  • summer 2018: Dropbox cybersecurity internship
  • 2017-2020: Lots of TA jobs, including algorithms & graduate distributed systems classes, at UChicago.
  • Gave lots of cybersecurity and blockchain talks and a script kiddie 101 workshop to other undergrads.
    • Came very close to getting kicked out of uchicago for computer hacking. Gave a talk about that too. Mercifully saved from this fate by divine intervention (a cybersecurity professor vouching for me to the disciplinary committee).
  • 2017-2020: UChicago Scav captain for Burton-Judson (world’s largest scavenger hunt), second-largest team in the competition.
    • Led construction of a catapult that throws a catapult that throws a …. tl;dr there were five catapults.
    • Led construction of a Dante’s Inferno-themed carousel that could give rides to two large adults.
    • Helped build a city-block-sized, then planet-sized, fish.
    • Co-captained with the wonderful Meredith Thornburgh.
  • 2017-2020: Lots of sysadmin and IT jobs, including on the UChicago Midway supercomputer
  • 2016-2017: Wolfram Algorithms R&D Intern, Signal Processing and Digital Image Processing
  • 2013-2016: TJHSST (graduated with a 4.2 GPA)
    • 3rd place nationally in PicoCTF 2013, 1st place at MetroCTF 2014,and a lot of others
    • Briefly (with friends) held the record for the fastest Class-B speedrun of the DC Metro (7 hours, 12 minutes)
    • Member of TJHSST Sysadmins, administered 50 Gentoo workstations for use in the TJ CSL.
    • Second-chair cellist in AYSO.
    • Coursework included quantum physics, math for physics (including my favorite math I’ve ever done… I have a relevant tattoo), discrete math, and computational physics (simulated inspiral black hole collisions on a supercomputer!).
    • Rowed a pretty speedy 7:41 erg 2K
  • 2015-2016: Accelerator Physics research at UMD/IREAP, on the UMER electron ring (slides) and Rutgers 12ā€ Cyclotron (slides, paper)
  • 2011-2013: SHAPE American High School (Mons, Belgium)
    • Ambassador of El Salvador at THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations)
    • Participant, Stages de Musique Dinant International Music Academy, Cello
    • Creative Connections Fine Arts workshop (Oberwesel am Rhein, Germany), first chair cello, soloist
    • Varsity letters in swimming and softball
